Preparation in the Job Search – Why Your Hard Work Won’t Go Unnoticed

You’ve certainly heard the advice to prepare for your interview. You know to research the company to better understand who you’ll be meeting with and how you fit into their organization. But what else can you do to ensure you’ll be viewed as a top candidate? There are a few tips and tricks the experts will share with you, but the best advice is to do your homework. Here is how to make sure your hard work won’t go unnoticed. Consider these ideas to prepare for your next interview.

Prepare questions.

During your interview, the hiring manager will ask you if you have any questions. You may want to say, “No, you’ve answered everything,” but don’t give into to the temptation to cut the interview short. Instead, prepare some additional questions that will demonstrate your interest and show the manager you’re engaged. Try “What personality traits succeed in your company?” Or, “What are your goals for this position?”

Understand your goals.

Speaking of goals, it’s useful to review your own career goals before talking with the company. The real key here is to ensure that your goals are a match for the company’s long-term needs. By knowing how you want to shape your future, you can talk with confidence about how this applies to them.

Review their brand and values.

You should also take some time to review the company’s own brand and values. Their branding will give you some insight on the way they conduct themselves within the community and an idea of their core values. Understanding this will give you a chance to determine if they’re the right company for you and if they are you can frame your interest based on those shared values.

Relate your experience.

Finally, be sure that you are relating your experience directly to what they’re looking for in a new employee. It’s great that you were able to create organization processes, but how does that benefit this company? You want to sell your skills for their specific needs to make them stop and take notice.
