Recruiting is both an art and a science and its processes are continually evolving. It wasn’t long ago that recruiters and hiring managers didn’t use the internet at all to find top local candidates. Today, there are so many online resources it’s hard to keep them all straight. You probably know that LinkedIn is considered a top source for new talent, but how do you use it to your advantage? Here are 3 tips for using LinkedIn to recruit employees for your open positions.
Build Your Company Profile
It might be surprising to learn that the first step of recruiting on LinkedIn is to focus on your own company profile. Even though it sounds backward, it really is the most important thing to attract potential candidates to your company. When you reach out to someone, the first thing they’ll do is look at your company page to find out more, so make sure it’s complete.
Your company page has most of the same things your personal profile contains, but also has a menu to include your about page and jobs. There is also a tab called “life” where you can showcase your company culture. Complete the company profile so people get the best impression of you when they click to learn more.
Participate in Groups
The next step to finding qualified candidates through LinkedIn is to participate in groups. Groups offer ways for professionals to interact with their peers, and that means you can find individuals with certain skill sets just by participating.
Join groups that make sense with your company, your products or services, your location, or the kinds of skills you typically hire for in your organization. When there, participate. Answer questions when they’re asked and pose a few of your own. This interaction is where you may find potential candidates and the first place you should look when you need to add new talent to your roster.
Target Passive Candidates
Another fantastic use for LinkedIn is to find passive candidates. Passive candidates are exactly that: individuals not currently looking for a job. But that doesn’t mean they won’t consider a job if it finds them. A lot of people on LinkedIn are passive. They have jobs they like and use the page for professional networking.
When you search the platform for someone with your desired skill set, many of the candidates you’ll find won’t be actively looking, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t reach out. Send a quick introduction to see if you can start a conversation.
