Great Questions to Ask the Employer

It is time to polish up those interviewing skills once again. While it can get tiresome to hear the same advice over and over again, there is a lot of value in these suggestions. For instance, one of the best skills you can have is to know what questions to ask the employer during an interview. Here are some questions you should consider.

  1. “What can I accomplish in my first month here?” Your intention with this question is to demonstrate your desire to jump in to work with both feet. You want to be seen as an employee who takes action. When you arrive on your first day you’ll be expecting to get started right away without a lot of training.
  2. “What makes an employee stand out in your organization?” Employers don’t want to hear that a job seeker is willing to accept any job that comes along. They want you to be 100% interested in their company and the job they are offering. You want to find out if you really do have what it takes to be successful in their industry.
  3. “Where are your revenue streams?” You are an investment and you are expected to make money for the company. It will be important for you to know how this organization generates their profit and how your role fits into the overall picture.
  4. “With whom will I be working?” Interpersonal relationships on the job might be the number one most important puzzle piece that no one ever talks about. Many companies believe that if they hire individuals with the right skills that everything will fall into place, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. In order to be effective a team must be able to work well together.
  5. “Where do you see the company in 5 or 10 years?” This turns a typical interview question back on the employer. It is not uncommon for an interviewer to ask where you see yourself, but you want to know the long term viability of the company as well. You certainly don’t want to be back on the job market after a lay off or company closure. As them about their long term plans and how they expect to deal with unforeseen circumstances.
