When we allow ourselves to get out of our comfort zone, things are scary, and it can feel overwhelming at best. But getting comfortable with being uncomfortable can lead to better confidence, and that can lead to success. Here are ways to make new situations less stressful, which will help you excel.
The very first thing you need to do to build confidence is simply showing up. This doesn’t have to mean physically showing up, such as to an event, but it means you need to face the task head-on no matter how much you want to avoid it. It’s okay to feel uncomfortable when you do it, but you need to do it anyway.
Something that makes you uncomfortable will probably not feel natural for quite some time. Just because you tried it once doesn’t mean you can stop trying. Don’t quit. Keep working on the specific task. The more you do it, the more comfortable you’ll feel with it over time. That could be short-term or long-term, but it will turn around.
You’ve always heard that you shouldn’t say something’s impossible. That’s precisely the mindset that allows you to keep inside your comfort zone. To break out, you have to push yourself. You may not want to do it, but you just have to push yourself until you do.
Here’s the thing. Not every task you try will succeed. Failure is not the end of the road. It’s just a bump along the way. Finally, to continue to build confidence, do it again. Repetition will help you continue to make improvements and adjustments and just get you more comfortable with the task at hand. So when you fall, pick yourself back up, dust yourself off, and do it again. The entire thing will start to feel more comfortable the more you do it.
