5 Interview Questions YOU Should Ask the Hiring Manager in Your Next Job Interview

You certainly expect to be answering questions in your interview process. You expect the typical questions like “Where do you see yourself in 10 years?” You also may expect the oddball questions like, “if you were a car, what kind of car would you be?” But have you considered the questions that you should be asking in an interview? Companies like candidates who have done their homework and want to see that you’re engaged with their company or the job right from the start.

1. “What can I accomplish in my first months with your company?”

This question shows you are ready to hit the ground running. While you know you will need some training, you also know that you want to contribute to the success of the company in a meaningful way. This demonstrates that you’re a self-starter and you want to take action right away. In fact, you may even learn best by doing, not watching.

2. “What personality traits do your successful employees have in common?”

You certainly want to fit in with the team, but you also want to know what traits the company hires for right out the gate. The more you learn about your potential co-workers, the better the decision you can make about how you will complement the existing team.

3. “How does your company make money?”

Every company looks at every employee as an investment toward their financial goals. No matter what role you play in the organization, you have some influence over how the company profits. Understanding the big picture will help you see how you can fit in. You will show them you’re interested in the same financial goals they are as a company.

4. “What does the future of the company look like?”

Employers aren’t interested in hiring someone who wants to stay in the same role forever. They are looking for people to grow with the company. This question is the employer equivalent of “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” Ask about the long-term vision and your role within it.

5.“Why do you love your job?”

Finally, turn the tables on the interview themselves and gain some insight on the company. You will be able to tell by their body language and choice of words what they really feel about the company, regardless of what they’re actually saying to you. This also shows that you have a personal interest in their specific experience, which can help them make a decision about you as well.
