How to Drive Traffic to Your Website

We all know that modern companies must have an internet presence to compete in today’s market. For many small and medium sized companies outsourcing this function is impractical. So how do you, as a business owner, make your website effective and drive traffic to it? Here are three tips to making sure you get readers.

  1.  Update your content regularly. There is some interesting science and psychology involved when it comes to managing your web presence. The more new content you provide the more traffic you get. Why? The way that search engines work is that they aggregate websites that feature certain search terms and place the most recent or most visited ones at the top. If you use a blog or other method to add new content to your site on a regular basis – say, once a day or once a week – your site will begin to be indexed more frequently through the search engines. Including important keywords that people might search for when looking for the product or service you offer is important, but don’t skimp on really good content. Once you get someone to your site you want them to read and like what they see and continue to come back. You want them to share your information on social media and refer their friends. Updating your content on a regular basis will encourage them to return.
  2. Manage inbound links. Now that you have an audience checking out your site on a regular basis for new and informative content you need to start managing other what other websites say about you. You want to have links on other sites pointing to your site so people click through to see what you have to offer. There are many ways to manage this and many avenues you can take. You should invite happy customers to write reviews for you on sites built for that purpose. Yelp or AngiesList are some examples. There may also be local or regional sites that are commonly used by consumers to rate businesses in the area.  This is the next generation of word of mouth referrals. When you work with someone who has a great experience with their company encourage them to create a review. Also, promote your recent content on social media like LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter. Also look at other websites that feature similar information to yours offer to write guest posts with a link back to your website. Even if you don’t do a guest post, you should be commenting on other blogs. This will also provide a link back to your site.
  3. Develop a consistent brand message. Once you begin your online strategy make sure that you maintain consistency throughout the process. Make your Facebook, blog, and Twitter match each other to provide the same user experience in each place. Make sure that consistency follows through to your product itself. Online readers become your ambassadors and you will want to make sure their spread the information you want.
