Arrive on Time
Hiring managers appreciate candidates who arrive on time for their
interview. Of course, you don’t want to be late, but you
also don’t want to be too early. Checking in with the receptionist
approximately 5 minutes before your scheduled interview time is
a good rule of thumb.
Dress for Success
Neat, clean clothes and hair are a must for every interview. Be
considerate also that you do not wear too much perfume or cologne.
Moderation is the key. You want to be remembered for being tasteful
and professional, not flamboyant.
Do Your Research
Interviewers want to know why you will be a good candidate for
a position with their company. To answer this question honestly,
you should know a little about the company, such as their main
line of business and who their consumers might be. We suggest
you check out their website, or if they don’t have one,
look up information about them in your local library.
Be Positive
Prospective employers are looking for individuals who fit easily
into their organization and will get along well with co-workers.
In the event that you have had a bad experience with a previous
employer, try not to say anything negative about them. Reflect
on your experience and determine ahead of time how you can discuss
the situation in a positive light.
Send a Thank-You Letter
In the days following a round of interviews, hiring managers sometimes
have to make tough decisions between one or two top candidates.
Make sure that they remember you by dropping them a quick thank-you
letter the day after the interview. Be sure to express your interest
in the position and reiterate why you think you are the perfect
fit for the job!
