How To Justify Your Value On Your Resume

Value on ResumeThere is a lot of resume advice available today. Many experts suggest that you need to provide data that justifies your value but what does that actually mean? Your job as a candidate is to provide as much detail as possible that will engage a prospective employee. They need to see how your specific combination of skills will solve their immediate problem. Here are some ways to justify your value on a resume by providing key data that can sell your skills.

  • Revenue. Any time you can share details about how much money you earned or saved for your company, it will be an eye catcher for the resume reader. The problem they need solved by hiring a new person may be all about the money. If you can demonstrate how you’ve achieved success for past employers, this is a perfect stat to include.
  • Productivity. Remember that time is also money in the business world. Did you create processes that saved yourself or your department time and allowed you to be more effective and, ultimately, help the company earn more money? We’re you able to reduce the number of employees in a department that was losing money and improve processes to become a profit center again?
  • Efficiency. Processes can go way beyond your own job or managing a small team. Were you able to improve the efficiency of your entire company based on new processes and procedures that helped streamline the way your company conducted business. Did your processes allow for your company to launch a project sooner than expected? Did that help build more business?
  • Numbers. Finally, there are several other numbers you may want to add to your resume that aren’t included in efficiency, productivity, or revenue. For example, you could include the number of employees you directly supervised. If you did customer service, include your customer satisfaction numbers. If you handled shipping, what was your turn around time or how many packages were you able to ship in a day?
